WHAT IS ALOE VERA GOOD FOR?

Posted on 14th October, 2019, in Consumer

The aloe vera plant is well-known for its healing properties. For centuries, the gel found inside the leaves of aloe vera has been a popular herbal remedy used to treat a range of health issues.

So, what are the benefits of aloe vera? Aloe vera is a rich source of antioxidants that will protect your skin and digestive system. Although aloe vera gel won’t fully correct all health issues on its own, one of the benefits of aloe vera is that it will help speed up the healing process when used in conjunction with other products.

Another benefit is that Aloe vera gel contains vitamins that are beneficial for the body. It is used extensively in supplements and cosmetic products – and for good reason too. This blog will look at some of the benefits of aloe vera for skincare and digestion.

SKIN

Aloe vera is beneficial for treating skin injuries. For instance, the NHS recommends using aloe vera gel to treat sunburn, as it helps to repair skin cells whilst encouraging new ones to develop. There is an extensive amount of research that suggests the gel from the aloe vera plant can improve the healing process when you’re sunburnt. One study found that it could also be effective when used to treat first and second-degree burns.

Aloe vera is also good for treating skin irritation and inflammation, which are symptoms of conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. As aloe vera contains acemannan, it is able to suppress the enzymes that trigger inflammation.

Furthermore, aloe vera is useful for hydrating dry skin that can result from inflammatory skin disease. Not only does it lock moisture into the skin, but it also helps the top layer of skin cells stick together, ultimately softening your skin.

Additionally, aloe vera has antibacterial qualities that make it useful for fighting acne. It also contains salicylic acid, an exfoliant that removes excess dirt from your pores, making it efficient at dealing with spots and blackheads. In fact, research shows that using aloe vera, in conjunction with acne medication, is more effective than using medication on its own.

DIGESTION

There are many reasons why aloe vera is good for digestion. Firstly, it contains several enzymes that are known to help break down sugars and fats, thus keeping the digestive system running smoothly.

As well as this, it can help decrease irritation and inflammation. For instance, research has found that drinking aloe vera juice can relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Furthermore, a study found that taking aloe vera gel can be beneficial to those suffering from ulcerative colitis.

Aloe vera can also be used to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux, such as heartburn. Heartburn is caused by acid irritation of the oesophagus. However, research shows that aloe vera may reduce acid production and act as an anti-inflammatory product.

For instance, one study found that drinking aloe vera juice reduced the symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux, as well as traditional medication could. In fact, the research found that aloe vera juice could be more effective in some circumstances.
